Since 2026, the domestic aluminum nitride market has demonstrated unprecedented momentum, with numerous aluminum nitride suppliers reporting a surge in orders. Backlogs for some manufacturers now extend through the end of 2027.
A primary catalyst for this growth is China's implementation of export controls on rare earth items. In April 2025, the Ministry of Commerce and the General Administration of Customs included seven categories of rare earths—including yttrium oxide and its mixtures—in the export control list.
Overseas aluminum nitride suppliers have long relied on Chinese imports for these critical materials. Following the implementation of controls, procurement costs have risen sharply, and supply uncertainty has increased. Since early 2026, major overseas suppliers have curtailed production capacity for high-end AlN substrates, extending delivery lead times from the standard 1–2 months to 6–7 months.

While supply tightens, demand is exploding. The rapid iteration of high-speed optical modules and high-power electronics has driven exponential growth in heat dissipation requirements.
Boasting thermal conductivity of 170–230 W/m·K and a CTE matching silicon, aluminum nitride ceramic substrates have cemented their position as the core material for high-power semiconductor packaging. Ceramic electronic substrates, serving as critical thermal management components in power modules, face continuously rising demand.
At the same time, aluminum nitride ceramic crucibles, as essential consumables in the ceramic sintering process, have seen demand surge in line with industry expansion. In the thermal management materials sector, ceramic filler manufacturers are also experiencing order growth, as aluminum nitride fillers are widely added to high-thermal-conductivity epoxy resins, thermal pads, and other products.
Addressing the vacuum left by shrinking overseas supply, domestic aluminum nitride suppliers are aggressively expanding. The first phase of Xiamen Juci's Inner Mongolia production base has recently commenced operations, with capacity steadily ramping up.
From aluminum nitride ceramic substrates and aluminum nitride ceramic crucibles to ceramic filler manufacturers and further upstream to high-purity powders, China's aluminum nitride market is undergoing a historic transition from a "backup option" to a strategic necessity, unlocking unprecedented market space for domestic enterprises with full industrial chain autonomy.
